Yield is the ratio of yearly income from an investment compared to the value of the asset (or price paid). In property, if you paid $400,000, and received $25,000 p/a in rent, your rental yield would be:
$25,000 / $400,000 = 6.25%.

For share investments, if the share price of company ABC was $3.50, and investors were paid a $0.15 annual dividend, the stock would have a dividend yield of : $0.15 / $3.50 = 4.28%
